The final defense of the third "Silk Road Landscape" joint university graduation design of 2023, hosted by Chang'an University, was successfully held on 4 June 2023 in the School of Architecture of Chang'an University. Nearly 100 teachers and students from seven universities, including Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, Chang'an University, Inner Mongolia University of Technology, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Soochow University and Xi'an Polytechnic University, participated in the event.
The venue for the defense
The theme of this joint graduation design was set by Chang'an University, entitled "Conceptual Planning and Design of the Village (Zhangjiaxiang Village) in the Core Protection Zone of Xi'an Great Heritage Area". Han Chang'an City is the capital city with the most dynasties and the longest duration in Chinese history, and it is the center of the cultural formation process of Han nationality. The site of Han Chang'an City is the largest, best preserved, richest and most culturally rich capital city site in China to date. The selected topic focuses on the core villages in the area of the national heritage site, combining the protection of cultural heritage in the site area with the development of rural revitalization, and exploring the path for the villagers in the site area and the site to live in harmony and develop together. This year's joint graduation design held its opening ceremony and five-day research activities at Chang'an University on 28 February, conducted online mid-term reporting on 22 April, and completed the final graduation design defense at Chang'an University as planned.

At 9:00 a.m., the final defense of the third "Silk Road Landscape" colleges and universities joint graduation design was opened in the lecture hall on the first floor of the Architecture Hall of Chang'an University Xiaozhai Campus, which was presided over by Prof. Bai Hua, vice dean of the School of Architecture of Chang'an University. Firstly, Professor Yang Rui from the Department of Landscape Architecture of Tsinghua University, who is the vice president of China Landscape Architecture Society and the chairman of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Landscape Architecture of the Ministry of Education, was invited to give a lecture on the theme of assessment, dilemma and breakthrough of landscape architecture for the teachers and students.

After the opening ceremony, a total of 14 groups of students from seven colleges and universities were divided into two groups to report and exchange their design results. The whole defense process lasted four hours, and the jury gave full affirmation to the report of the students from each school, and each school also presented distinctive design results and teaching characteristics, which benefited the students a lot.

After the defense session, the winning entries were carefully evaluated and awarded to the winning students by the representative teachers. Two groups of students from our college won one Best Theme Award and two Best Industrial Creativity Awards respectively, with outstanding performance.

At the end of the activity, Professor Dong Ludi of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology made a summary of this joint graduation design and gave a prospect for the future development of "Silk Road Landscape" joint graduation design. At this point, this year's "Silk Road Landscape" joint graduation project was successfully concluded.
